Franco Albini was an Italian architect who studied under Gio Ponti then went on to open his own firm in 1930. He designed furniture as well, and some of his most memorable pieces were made of rattan. These have a fluid, sculptural beauty that elevates this earthy material to new heights of glamour. The Gala Chair (above) is my favorite of them all.
Albini's furniture can be found regularly on 1st Dibs, and occasionally on eBay, the Margherita Chair and the Pouf being the most ubiquitous of the bunch. Some of these items are still being produced in Italy by Vittorio Bonacina. I'm hoping a parrot and caftan are included with purchase.
